Description Full Decent 2005-07-19 07:47:05 UTC
Add a metadata field to ebuilds to classify if the package provides an
x-application (with a .desktop file), a library, a server...

This extra information will make it easier to make frontends (ebuild) that
interface nicely with users. Example:

# emerge updage --noob
Portage has these new packages for you to install:
Gaim 1.4.0
Firefox 1.0.5
...and 13 libraries that you wouldn't recognize if I told you what they were
Continue [Y/n/?]

This information will make new things possible for frontends, especially visual
ones where it is easy to hide information that is not relevant to the user.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

This would belong in metadata.xml which portage is not presently the authority
on. There is currently nowhere to reassign this bug to though (200 people on a
single alias doesn't get very far), so you'll need to open this for discussion
on gentoo-dev@gentoo.org mailing list.
