Description Robert T Childers 2005-07-18 15:29:44 UTC
after performing my update from 2.6.11 to 2.6.12 and the resulting update of
splashutils and installing splash-themes-gentoo I was greeted with Couldn't load
26pt font from (null).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.upgrade from 2.6.11 to 2.6.12
2.emerge splashutils (after unmasking ~x86)
3.emerge splash-themes-gentoo, and rebuild fbsplash-emergence-1024x768

Actual Results:
System booted with the error message Couldn't load 26pt font from (null)

Expected Results:
loaded the font and produced no error message.

Solution to the problem is to edit the 1024x768.cfg file and add the line
text_font=luxisri.ttf to the file then copy the luxisri.ttf font to the
/etc/splash/emergence directory from /etc/splash directory. I haven't checked
all the config files yet in the /etc/splash/gentoo directory yet. But I did
check the livecd-2005.1 config files and they have a font specified. Of course
one solution would be for splashutils to take a default font specification if
one isn't given in the cfg files for each theme. But for now the simplest
solution is to specify the font in the cfg file for the theme you are going to use.

This was a bug in the splash_geninitramfs script and is fixed as of 1.1.9.10.
