installed from 2005.0 follwing the handbook (stage 3) but emerging kde configure always said "Ogg Vorbis libraries not found". looking into the bugzilla made clear that an update happened adding "ogg" and "vorbis" as separate flags, replacing the flag "oggvorbis". despite following the installation handbook (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86. xml?style=printable&full=1) the flags were not correctly added. additionally (or maybe the root of the issue): /etc/make.profile is not a link and not a regular directory (file says "directory", rm -rf says "no directory"). i am not really sure what caused this kind of misconfiguration Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Has nothing to do with the release media, per se. Reassigning.
In case you're using GRP installation, don't follow "normal" Handbook, but use the one for your specific version (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/2005.0/handbook-x86.xml?style=printable&full=1 in your case). Also remember that you cannot remove symlink pointing to directory by `rm /path/to/file/`, you have to use `rm /path/to/file` without trailing slash.
Handbook does not tell you to set oggvorbis. Both ogg & vorbis are selected by default as specified in /usr/portage/profiles/base/use.defaults and are in use as shown by your emerge --info. FYI, /etc/make.profile should look like $ ls -l /etc/make.profile lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 48 Apr 8 18:51 /etc/make.profile -> ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2005.0 $ file /etc/make.profile /etc/make.profile: symbolic link to `../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2005.0' Fix you link and if the problem persists, please file a bug for our kde guys.
> Handbook does not tell you to set oggvorbis. right, but it doesn't neither say setting "oggvorbis" will disable "ogg" and "vorbis". the link was corrected after a reboot.
