The i855crt package is much better than i810switch for users with the i855 chipset on Centrino notebooks.
From the sf-page (http://sourceforge.net/projects/i855crt): "i855crt is an userspace driver for linux that can enable the crt out (port for external monitor) on i855GM based laptop. Please note that this driver is still very experimental." Although it is still marked as experimental, the driver works quite well on my Thinkpad R51. The 0.4-version of i855crt is a bit outdated, but - as the maintainer, Andrea Merello, told me - there's currently no new release planed, but the cvs-version contains a few bugfixes. I tared today's cvs-version up and put it on my website. I suggest 'x11-misc/i855crt' and to prefer the more recent 20050918 version.

Sorry, I don't have the hardware to test this package.
> Sorry, I don't have the hardware to test this package. I tried the proposed ebuild (the 0.4 version) and works like a charm. The other ebuild misses the file (it has probably been removed ?).
I can't emerge neither of them. It can't find the tar.gz file to download. I already tried a bunch of mirrors... i855crt-0.4.tar.gz just doesn't exit.
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=107484 Works for me.
Confirmed - the 0.4 version works. I can upload it anyway, if you need it.
