Description nm (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-13 23:42:33 UTC
I've made quite a few extremely minor changes to the Gentoo FAQ. Almost all of them are trivial, including proper punctuation, possessives/plural, and more consistent capitalization of proper nouns (Portage and Gentoo, which are capitalized throughout the entire gentoo.org site).

One more major change was updating the configuration location for KEYMAPS; as of the latest baselayout, keymap settings are no longer placed in /etc/rc.conf, but /etc/conf.d/keymaps. I've updated the FAQ to reflect this.

Of further concern is the FAQ's current "release schedule" information. It states that releases are "twice per year", but given Gentoo's history so far, isn't it more accurate to say "three to four times per year"? While this change is not in the patch, as I am still hesitant, please keep that in mind. While it looks like 2005 will only see three releases, AFAIK the last few years have each had four releases, approximately one per quarter.

Thanks for reading this longish bug. The patch is attached.

FYI, content change like
-Edit the <c>KEYMAP</c> variable in <path>/etc/rc.conf</path>. Then, either
+Edit the <c>KEYMAP</c> variable in <path>/etc/rconf.d/keymaps</path>. Then, either
should not be mixed with typo/spelling/grammar changes.
It's /etc/conf.d/keymaps btw.

I wonder why you s/CPUs/CPU's/ but not CDs nor RPMs.
"thats" did need a "'" btw :)
Other fixes handpicked and applied.
Thanks.

I meant conf.d. I misspelled it though, sigh. Forgot an extra backspace.
Apologies. Good thing you caught it.

I'll remember to separate procedural changes from typographical changes next
time. And "CPU's" is possessive in this case, not plural. The sentence refers to
the website belonging to the vendor of the CPU. Can't believe I missed "thats",
either. Thanks for catching that.
