Description Max Loparev 2005-07-09 07:51:51 UTC
it may work 5 minute or 2 hours and then freezes. Magic key not working.

But it normally runs for days without any problem at preempt SMP kernel on uniprocessor system, and not preempt UP kernel on the same uniprocessor system.

gentoo-sources-2.6.12-r2
nvidia-kernel-1.0.7664
xorg-x11-6.8.2-r1

p.s. preempt is preempt + preempt big kernel lock. I didn't try preempt without preempt big kernel lock.

Are still able to move your mousepointer when the freeze occurs and have a line starting
with NVRM: Xid: in the systemlog? Can you ssh to the box and see x consume all processor?
Comment 2 Max Loparev 2005-07-09 11:24:25 UTC
dead means dead, and when kernel doesn't react on Alt-SysRq means in almost all
cases that it has no time to write something in log.

now testing 2.6.12-gentoo-r4 preempt UP, but with additionaly MSI turned off

btw my hardware is PCI-E GF6600 on EpoX 9NPAJ
Comment 3 Max Loparev 2005-07-09 12:35:55 UTC
same issue with 2.6.12-gentoo-r4
Comment 4 Max Loparev 2005-08-31 03:30:24 UTC
it seems ok with 2.6.12-gentoo-r9 and NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-7676

If you still have issues w/ current x11-drivers/{nvidia-drivers,nvidia-legacy-drivers} and uptodate kernels, file a new bug. Thanks.
