Should this also fail on a non chroot multilib box? If so drop me a line and I will post my emerge --info and other info you might need. On my box this build without problems.

builds fine for me ... if you re-emerge ncurses and then bash does it work ?
somehow that fixed it... very odd since i just installed the entire system a few days ago sorry for the trouble
