As described in http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-121725-highlight-asc+0x30+ascq+0x02.html KsCD polls dvd drives and causes errors to occur when DVD media are in the drive. I have observed this with both a NEC 2500A and a NEC 3520 DVD/RW drive. Errors look like: Jun 25 23:56:05 myHostName Error: Not ready -- (Sense key=0x02) Jun 25 23:56:05 myHostName (reserved error code) -- (asc=0x30, ascq=0x02) Jun 25 23:56:05 myHostName The failed "Read Subchannel" packet command was: Jun 25 23:56:05 myHostName "42 02 40 01 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 " which repeat every second. Observed consequences are movie stuttering, slow data reads and failures during burning dvd media.
