Description Werner Schalk 2005-06-24 04:26:20 UTC
I am using vserver on my Gentoo box and inside a vserver
I can't restart Apache 2 because it tries to bring up lo which
apparently doesn't exist:

# /etc/init.d/apache2 start
 * Starting lo
 *   Bringing up lo ...
[ !! ]
 * ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
 *         "apache2" was not started.

So I can't restart the Apache inside my vserver.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. In a vserver environment, restart Apache
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Apache did not start

Expected Results:
Apache should start as normal

do you have a patched baselayout inside your vserver?
Comment 2 Werner Schalk 2005-06-26 02:40:17 UTC
I do have the vserver-enabled baselayout. Interstingly Apache 2 restarts
fine in 18 of my 20 vservers although I use the same script to create
all of them (and it was fine so far). The problem is that the Apache 2
start script has the "need net" option set and therefore he tries to disable
and enable the loopback device which then fails. Any ideas?

which version of baselayout do you have installed? and could you attach your
net.lo?
