On the start page http://bugs.gentoo.org/, when entering "shared-mime-info" as search string, 1 (one) bug is found. Making the same search when entering a bug in the guided format gets many many hits. I suppose the "-" signs in the second case are removed before the search is triggered. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Expected Results: same search results in both cases
There is another difference: If I type 'Apache Documentation' at the start page, I get only a few results. If I type the same in the guided format, I get many more results - so many more that the search is basically useless.
Bug 96945, comment #5 is another example of utterly useless results that the "new bug" search returns... :/
See also bug 98274, comment #2. Here the "search for your bug" step failed to show the preceding equivalent bug 98260, presumably because it had been fixed already. This shows that the settings for this search are useless for preventing dupes of bugs that have been fixed already.

As I have commented on the other bug, the "enter a bug" search is broken and there is nothing that can be done on Gentoo side about it right now - this is an upstream bugzilla bug/feature.

This may reduces duplicate bugs.
i have added a comment below the quick search field on the index page as to how to better search using ALL. in the upcoming 2.20 bugzilla release i will keep my eyes on search abnormalities with that front page.
