Comment 3 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-19 02:29:31 UTC
Well, what about never versions? I'm afraid Gentoo won't be able to do too much
about it.
Comment 4 Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-19 06:29:45 UTC
Newer versions do not work with the nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Go chip I have in my
laptop.
Comment 5 Hynek Schlawack 2005-06-21 08:33:07 UTC
FYI: I have similar problems with nvidia-kernel-1.0.7664 and a nVidia FX 6800. I
had to downgrade to 2.6.11-gentoo-r11. I hadn't any problems upgrading all the
way throught the previous "r"s.

My error was "No devices" or something similar though.

Comment 6 Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-30 09:27:39 UTC
Forgot to mention this before, from dmesg:

  nvidia: Unknown symbol inter_module_get
Comment 7 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-02 08:49:09 UTC
Kernel 2.6.12 deprecated some functions in its AGP modules that both nVidia and
ATI used. Like Jakub said in comment #3, there's not much that can be done.
inter_module_get is the one that both drivers have been choking over.

In response to #4: this is an unfortunate effect of using binary drivers in an
open-source world. You can't use the xorg driver instead?
Comment 8 Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-02 14:05:02 UTC
No, the X.org nv driver does not support dual-head which I need for giving
presentations with my laptop.
Comment 9 Sebastian Bergmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-20 10:58:51 UTC
Closing, versions of nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx no longer in portage.
