I went on the chat room on openprojects

no one reported it to be working

have you, in fact, built your whatis database yet? man makewhatis :P

Comment 3 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-10-25 05:13:08 UTC
having said that, there was some discussion some time ago about automating the
updates of the whatis database. I think it was concluded that the user might do
that in a cron job or so.

I've added other developers to this bug, to get their input.
Comment 4 Ben de Luca 2002-10-25 08:15:49 UTC
Maybe the man ebuild should at least
run the command or there should be a note if its not automatic

must admit if i had rtfm
i would have seen it
Comment 5 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-11-02 14:44:35 UTC
well, here's the thing, the man ebuild installs a cron file and an entry in
cron.daily (it has cronbase as its dependency). so, all you would have to do is
configure your cron, and this would all be taken care of anyway...
