With gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r9 my sis900 nic in my laptop works fine, with
2.6.11-r11, when I enable it, I get:

Ok, not sure why, but I recompiled -r9 and got the same errors. Closing as I
can't figure out what's wrong, not sure if it's hardware or not at this point.
