Description Ethan Grammatikidis 2005-06-14 14:43:06 UTC
emerging samba for the first time today, the build failed very quickly with the
following output:

>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking samba-3.0.10.tar.gz to /var/tmp/portage/samba-3.0.10/work
 * Applying samba-3.0.x-python-setup.patch ...
[ ok ]
Running autoconf ...
autom4te-2.59: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 139

Package versions are:
net-fs/samba-3.0.10
sys-devel/autoconf-wrapper-2-r1
sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r6
sys-devel/automake-1.9.5
sys-devel/m4-1.4.2-r1

These are the latest packages, last emerge --rsync was between 9 & 10PM BST
today. (In fact I ran the rsync to see if it would fix the problem, but it made
no difference at all.) I also tried rebuilding m4, autoconf, automake, &
autoconf-wrapper whether they needed upgrading or not, to see if it would make
any difference, but it didn't.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge -av net-fs/samba
Actual Results:
download proceded okay, md5 checks on a number of files okay, a short warning
message about changed defaults and /etc/samba/private being moved
to /var/lib/samba/private, and
then the details above: unpacks samba, applies one patch, runs autoconf &
autoconf fails.

Expected Results:
Presumably configured and built. :-J

Use flags for emerge (from the emerge -av output):
-acl -cups -debug -doc +kerberos -ldap -libclamav -mysql -oav +pam -postgres
+python +quotas +readline (-selinux) +winbind-xml +xml2
Note that it doesn't make any difference whether quotas & winbind are on or
off.

Ethan, what's the latest on this?
Comment 2 Ethan Grammatikidis 2005-08-01 16:05:55 UTC
I got nowhere on this & ended up forgetting about it after that machine died.
I've just installed it on another machine with different use flags & it's
installed fine, bu this new install is on a mature system not a fresh one.

USE flags on the new install:
-acl +cups -debug -doc +kerberos -ldap -libclamav +mysql -oav +pam -postgres
+python -quotas +readline (-selinux) -winbind-xml +xml2 14,821 kB

Further investigation of the problem on my part is very much on a 'when I get
round to it' basis I'm afraid, apart from having to deal with failing hardware
on my main compile boxes I have other projects looking for attention, but I'll
try to help as I can.
Comment 3 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-03 06:35:16 UTC
Ethan, I'll chalk this up to flaky hardware then, since it only ever happened to
you and only on that box. Please do reopen if the problem shows up and you can
reproduce it.
