well I have xine-ui emeged and it works (...somehow -> see bug #96073 if interested :-| ) BUT: when I type 'emerge xine-ui' portage says it's a NEW package btw: I have that problem with some other packages, but do not remember which ones right now. just to clear that out: I do _not_ remove, alter or overwrite any files that 'work with' portage! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: emerge -pv --deep --newuse xine-ui Actual Results: magic atti # emerge -pv xine-ui These are the packages that I would merge, in order: Calculating dependencies ...done! [ebuild N ] media-video/xine-ui-0.99.3 +X -aalib +directfb -lirc +nls 0 kB Total size of downloads: 0 kB magic atti #
Created attachment 61204 [details] shows portage statement and running xine-ui Sorry for da big screenshot but 'emerge gimp' fails on my system...
you neglected to post `emerge info` like you were told to also post the output of ls /var/db/pkg/media-video/ cat /var/db/pkg/media-video/xine-ui-*/SLOT
ups... been quite active today and forgot that in this bug (only - I hope) Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/amd64/2005.0, gcc-3.4.3, glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1, 2.6.11-gentoo-r7 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r7 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.12 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.5 [2.3.5 (#1, May 30 2005, 19:34:17)] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: [Not Present] sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.8.5-r3, 1.6.3, 1.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.4_p6, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.16 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r4 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /usr/X11R6/bin/startx /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig candy ccache distlocks sandbox severe sfperms strict test" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://pandemonium.tiscali.de/pub/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.gentoo.mesh-solutions.com/gentoo/ http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/" LANG="de_DE@euro" LC_ALL="de_DE@euro" LINGUAS="de_DE@euro" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X aac acpi alsa amd64 avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bzlib cdr crypt cups curl dga directfb dlloader dts dvd dvdr dvdread eds emacs encode esd exif fam fbcon ffmpeg font-server foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gimpprint gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal hardened howl imagemagick imlib ipv6 ithreads javascript jp2 jpeg lcms libwww lzo lzw lzw-tiff mad matroska memlimit mikmod mmap mng mozdevelop mozsvg mp3 mpeg ncurses nls nptl nvidia ogg oggvorbis openal opengl oss pam pda pdflib perl png ppds python quicktime readline real sdl slang ssl svg tcltk tcpd test tetex tga threads tidy tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb userlocales videos vorbis wmf xine xml2 xmms xpm xprint xrandr xv xvid xvmc zlib linguas_de_DE@euro userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY magic atti # ls /var/db/pkg/media-video/ . .. ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20050226-r5 mpeg2vidcodec-12-r1 nvidia-glx-1.0.6629-r6 nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r4 totem-1.0.2-r1 magic atti # cat /var/db/pkg/media-video/xine-ui-*/SLOT cat: /var/db/pkg/media-video/xine-ui-*/SLOT: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden (which means: file/dir was not found)
and what does `ls /var/db/pkg/*/*xine-ui*` show
magic atti # ls /var/db/pkg/*/*xine-ui* ls: /var/db/pkg/*/*xine-ui*: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden (file/dir not found)
well that should be a hint as to why portage doesnt think you have it installed all installed packages are recorded in /var/db/pkg it isnt recorded on your machine as being installed thus it isnt
I'm sorry but I didn't get the point. Didn't I install it using 'emerge xine-ui'? What to do now?!
re-emerge it the directory was lost somehow on your machine, theres nothing to be done about it
