Not sure when the problem came up, searched and was unable to find any info. I do know it is with both splashutils-1.1.9.6 and -r1. Previous versions worked fine. This time I did however have to add a kernel option of CONSOLE=/dev/tty1. Rebooting shows the progress bar just fine. Booting up shows the screen w/out any progress bar/%. Tried changing ttys splash kernal line. However, if say I'm using splash=xxx,tty:11, if i change to tty1, then change back to tty11, it shows the progress bar just fine. Nothing major, just a mild annoyance that I can't figure out. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge splashutils 2.reboot 3. Actual Results: no progress bar while booting. Expected Results: Progress bar while booting. sardonic sardonic # cat /usr/src/linux/.config | grep FB # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_OFFBOARD is not set CONFIG_FB=y CONFIG_FB_MODE_HELPERS=y # CONFIG_FB_TILEBLITTING is not set # CONFIG_FB_CIRRUS is not set # CONFIG_FB_PM2 is not set # CONFIG_FB_CYBER2000 is not set # CONFIG_FB_ASILIANT is not set # CONFIG_FB_IMSTT is not set # CONFIG_FB_VGA16 is not set CONFIG_FB_VESA=y # CONFIG_FB_VESA_STD is not set CONFIG_FB_VESA_TNG=y CONFIG_FB_VESA_DEFAULT_MODE="1280x1024-32@85" # CONFIG_FB_HGA is not set # CONFIG_FB_RIVA is not set # CONFIG_FB_I810 is not set # CONFIG_FB_INTEL is not set # CONFIG_FB_MATROX is not set # CONFIG_FB_RADEON_OLD is not set # CONFIG_FB_RADEON is not set # CONFIG_FB_ATY128 is not set # CONFIG_FB_ATY is not set # CONFIG_FB_SAVAGE is not set # CONFIG_FB_SIS is not set # CONFIG_FB_NEOMAGIC is not set # CONFIG_FB_KYRO is not set # CONFIG_FB_3DFX is not set # CONFIG_FB_VOODOO1 is not set # CONFIG_FB_TRIDENT is not set # CONFIG_FB_VIRTUAL is not set CONFIG_FB_SPLASH=y Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r0, 2.6.11-gentoo-r9 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r9 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.12 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.5 [2.3.5 (#1, Jun 3 2005, 03:41:07)] distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] ccache version 2.3 [enabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: [Not Present] sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r6, 2.13 sys-devel/automake: 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.5, 1.4_p6, 1.6.3, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.16 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-mtune=athlon-xp -march=athlon-xp -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-mtune=athlon-xp -march=athlon-xp -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" DISTDIR="/home/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig buildpkg candy ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j5" PKGDIR="/home/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/home/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow 3dnowex X alsa apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr crypt curl dvd eds emboss encode esd fam flac foomaticdb fortran gd gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jpeg kde kdeenablefinal libg++ libwww lm_sensors logitech-mouse mad mikmod mmx mmxext motif mozilla mp3 mpeg ncurses nls nptl offensive ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python qt quicktime readline sdl slang spell sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts vorbis win32codecs x xine xml2 xmms xscreensaver xv zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS
Could you please paste your '/proc/cmdline'? Have you tried rebuilding your initramfs image after installing splashutils-1.1.9.6(-r1)?
root=/dev/hda1 ramdisk=8192 video=vesafb-tng:ywrap,pmipal,1280x1024-32@85,vtotal:128 splash=silent, fadein, theme:dragonmatrix quiet gentoo=udev, nodevfs CONSOLE=/dev/tty1 Seems the 'quiet' part is what it was, I added that and it works fine now.
Great :) BTW: it should be 'video=vesafb:ywrap,pmipal,1280x1024-32@85,vtotal:128' and not 'video=vesafb-tng:...'. Marking as 'invalid' since the bug was about a configuration issue.
