In the README of wmii it states

Running wmii
------------
Add the following line to your .xinitrc to start wmii using startx:

    rm -f $HOME/.wmii/ixp/*
    exec wmii

if that is not done and wmii is unproperly exited it will not restart 
or it will crash.  Is it possible to fix the following issue with the use of GDM.

This will be fixed in the next release (by upstream).

This should be fixed by wmii-2. Ebuild is in the tree.
