I recently update Gnome w/ keyword x86. Either on reboot or just starting the ClockApplet, I get the following error in a popup window: The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_ClockApplet". Details: Failed to resolve, or extend '!prefs_key=/apps/panel/profiles/default/applets/applet_8/prefs;background=none:;orient=down;size=x-small;locked_down=false Not sure how else to diagnose this, but I'd be glad to help. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Login to Gnome or start the clock applet. 2. 3. Actual Results: Dialog with: The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_ClockApplet". Details: Failed to resolve, or extend '!prefs_key=/apps/panel/profiles/default/applets/applet_8/prefs;background=none:;orient=down;size=x-small;locked_down=false Expected Results: Clock applet happily running. I also have evolution which now has task list off the clock applet. It may be related or just a red herring.
What version of gnome-applets? What version of evolution-data-server? emerge info? What does that key (.../applets/applet_8/prefs) show in gconf editor?
(In reply to comment #1) > What version of gnome-applets? What version of evolution-data-server? emerge > info? What does that key (.../applets/applet_8/prefs) show in gconf editor? I have it running now. When I did a: emerge -p gnome-applets I discovered that I had a blocking package that `emerge -p world` didn't show. I emerged about 10 packages and all is well. Problem: The "Desktop -> Preferences" menu only has "Java Control Panel" and "xscreensaver". I have a lilipution font for my resolution (1900x1200) and can't figure out how to change it.
Same problem here. emerge -pu world gives nothing special. emerge -aD gnome-applets gives: Calculating dependencies ...done! [blocks B ] <app-admin/gnome-system-tools-1.1.91 (is blocking app-admin/system-tools-backends-1.2.0) [ebuild U ] x11-libs/libxklavier-2.0 [1.04-r1] [ebuild U ] gnome-base/libgtop-2.10.0 [2.8.3] [ebuild N ] app-admin/system-tools-backends-1.2.0 [ebuild U ] x11-libs/libwnck-2.10.0 [2.8.1-r1] [ebuild U ] gnome-base/gnome-panel-2.10.0 [2.8.3] [ebuild U ] gnome-base/gnome-applets-2.10.0 [2.8.2] !!! Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be installed !!! on the same system. I will emerge this stuff now. Hopefully, it will also fix my second problem: The main menu has no more entries inside the "Applications" entry. kind regards, Oli
just noticed that Kurt seems to have the problem about the applications entry inside the main menu as well. Guys, something's screwed! ;-)
Also, try: emerge -p --deep gnome There's a bunch of packages that didn't get updated w/ the world update.
please do a emerge -uDav world, and update all packages ( make sure there are no blockers ). Then restart X, and your problems should be fixed. I could reproduce this on one of my boxes, but was fixed after doing what I said above.
