Description Andrew Mellors 2002-10-23 00:24:35 UTC
I currently got a new Dual G4 867. I tried to install gentoo on it. But two
major factors stoped me.

1) There is no ata100 support in the kernel on the CD. Not an issuse there is
an ata66 bus on the Mac, but ata100 would be nice.

2) The network driver(s) that are in the kernel do not support the one that is
in this machine.

That is the biggest hinderence to getting gentoo installed.
Thanks for the awesome meta-distro. Keep up the good work.

Just a heads up for this...

there is no ppc kernel support for the ata100 bus at present, so not much can be
done about this until there is kernel support.

If you can provide the output of cat /proc/pci and dmesg in this bug it will be
helpful to track down the missing NIC support problem.

Also of note, the 1.2 ISO was released _before_ the dual 867mhz machines were
release. In the PPC world it generally takes some time to get proper ahrdware
support in the kernel, we are left palying waiting game more often than not.
