Software Suspend don't seem to work when X is started. When traying to resume the kernel hangs after 2 lines of output. I have retried this a few times - and one of them I got a long error message, if it apere again I will atach a picture of it. It works yust fine if X isn't started Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Configure the system to work with software suspend 2. Run hibernate (as root) 3. Try to resume the session by booting the computer Actual Results: The kernel hangs in resume process after 2 lines output Expected Results: The system shuld successfully be resumed - and you shuld return to X Portage 2.0.51.22-r1 (default-linux/amd64/2005.0, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r0, 2.6.11-gentoo-r10 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r10 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.12 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.8 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16-r1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon64 -march=k8 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon64 -march=k8 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ ftp://mir1.ovh.net/gentoo-distfiles/ http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://mirror.nutsmaas.nl/gentoo/ ftp://mir.zyrianes.net/gentoo/" LANG="sv_SE.UTF-8" LC_ALL="sv_SE.UTF-8" LINGUAS="sv" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X a52 acpi alsa anthy arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 bzlib canna cdparanoia cdr cdrom cjk crypt cups curl dbus dvd dvdr dvdread encode fam ffmpeg flac font-server fortran freetype ftp gcj gd gif h323 hal iconv ieee1394 imagemagick imlib java jp2 jpeg kde lzw lzw-tiff mad matroska mikmod mp3 mpeg mpeg2 mpeg4 msn nls nptl nptlonly offensive ogg oggvorbis opengl pam png qt quicktime rar readline reiserfs samba sdl spell ssl tcpd theora tiff transcode truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts uim unicode usb userlocales utf8 vcd videos vorbis xim xml2 xpm xrandr xv xvid zlib linguas_sv userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY [ebuild R ] sys-power/hibernate-script-1.08 0 kB [ebuild R ] sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r10 -build -doc -symlink (-ultra1) 0 kB # lspci | grep VGA 0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE] (rev 01) I will atach a few files

The problem seem to be in the driver for the radeon card provided by X.org (radean) If I change to the driver provided by ATI (fglrx) everything works just fine
so it works perfectly with the in kernel software suspend and ati drivers? interesting, I've never had much luck with either and use suspend2 (requires a set of patches) and the radeon driver. Anyway, back to the problem. What exactly are those two lines of output? Also, the hibernate script has a one or two tricks for dealing with X when it goes funky, in the hibernate config file take a look at the last couple settings, and twiddle around. (I can't say exactly what the options were, I don't have my laptop at the moment)

Sorry for the delay.. I can't use swsusp on a amd64, the xhacks dosen't help much eather - oh.. yes I get a more ditailed error message - Because I can't copy text in that kernel state I toke a few fotos of the screen, and will atach them hear I have updated the kernel to 2.6.12-gentoo

Is this reproducable with vanilla-sources-2.6.13_rc3?
See comment #9. It does look like you've come across a kernel bug, but theres no point debugging or reporting until its tested on the latest development kernel (currently 2.6.13-rc4)
