Initial state as "unconfirmed" because this came from a system not exactly "clean". Thinking this is a rather important issue so reporthing it anyway.

From this list "size" program is missing. Notably this program is needed from Bash to emerge between us.

i have size on all of my boxes

need more info to figure out what's going here ... be nice if a full emerge log
was posted as well as `emerge info`

bah, never had that problem again, has said probably was a hosed chroot ... that
after 4 months probably does not exist anymore.
