Description opensauce04 2025-03-16 22:39:45 UTC
To play audio through the speakers connected to my monitor, the aforementioned audio device must be selected. The name is a bit of a misnomer because it's actually connected via DisplayPort.

On 550.144.03, audio plays through the speakers connected to my monitor just fine, but if I upgrade to 570.124.04, the audio disappears. I can still play audio by connecting earphones or something directly to my computer, but playing audio through the "HDA NVidia Digital Stereo (HDMI)" device stops working.

I have tried going back and forth between these two versions, and the results are always the same as those mentioned above, so it is unlikely to be caused by another package update.

If it is useful, to know, I am using KDE Plasma 6 and have tested with both the X11 and Wayland sessions, and both have the same issue.

First I hear of this so I'd assume it's not widespread and maybe specific to a combination of hardware + the new drivers. At a glance I also don't see any mention of this on nvidia's feedback thread[1] but it's a big thread so I may have missed it.

Anyhow, afraid there's nothing I can do about such issues. Does not sound like a packaging problem and masking/destabilizing 570 is not really an option given it's needed for the improved wayland support, and not being stable been a headache for users for a while.

May want to try reporting upstream, or stick to the 550.x branch for now. 550.x isn't dead and still getting new releases, so relying on it until 570+ works better is a viable option.

There is also newer 570.133.07 in ~testing, albeit recall its changelog didn't mention anything about audio so it probably won't help.
