After upgrading qemu, I lost displays in my xen PV installs.  Downgrading back to 8.2.7 works around the issue.

I have found this:

As well as the SUSE bug:

They allude to fixing with a patch to qemu, but I don't see it linked.

Can confirm, qemu 8.2.9 also works.

From SUSE bug they say that reverting following

6ece1df966 hw/xen: Register framebuffer backend via xen_backend_init()
e99441a379 ui/curses: Do not use console_select()

helps, but no details.
