Created attachment 918125 [details] blender file
Thanks for adding a file to reproduce.
Can you disable GPU Subdivision in blender (Preferences -> Viewport -> uncheck GPU Subdivision under the Subdivision menu) and then see if you still crash when opening the file?
If I disable GPU Subdivision in Gentoo's blender-4.2, the file opens without crashing. With GPU Subdivision disabled, I can also restart blender/(re)open the file from the command line without crashing. If I (re)enable GPU Subdivision while the file is already open, Gentoo blender-4.2 immediately crashes. A (non-Gentoo) blender 4.2.6 AppImage does not have this issue, and does not crash in either case.
Identical (GPU Subdivision) crashing also reproduces on media-gfx/blender:4.3
Please update opensubdiv to 3.6.0-r2 and see if that fixes that.
I updated from 3.6.0-r1 to 3.6.0-r2. With 3.6.0-r2 installed, the crash is no longer reproducible.
