Version 0.4.2 of the open text summarizer works for me after bumping the ebuild
No metadata.xml. This package needs a maintainer.
What's supposed to be in the metadata.xml ? Whad has the maintainer to do ? I don't think that ots whill change in the future. The last release (0.4.2) whas on 2003-11-30, so this could be considered the "final" relase...
seemant/foser: you two worked on this. please bump and include a metadata.xml
well, I'm not going to take it either. I think this should be removed, seeing the last release is from 2003.
Created attachment 66891 [details] a metadata.xml file for app-text/ots suggestion for a metadata.xml file for this ebuild
Is this metadata.xml suitable? I read the dev documentation, and found that many other ebuilds on app-text share this metadata.xml file. This program is not dead. It is useful and interesting. Is there anything else needed other than this metadata.xml file?
LOL; metadata.xml won't really solve this problem that this package needs a maintainer. It's the maintainer who should put metadata.xml into portage. :) OK, unless someone picks this up in let's say one month, it should be better removed from portage, it does not compile for some people as well (Bug 97448)
Let's try it this way - can i be the maintainer for this package? I have some experience in writing C, C++, java, python, bash and a few more. I also read the ebuild dev documentation, and played a little with a local ebuild that i use on my local portage overlay. What do i need to do to maintain this package?
(In reply to comment #8) > What do i need to do to maintain this package? You simply cannot maintain something w/o CVS access, therefore you need to be an official Gentoo developer. I'm afraid this solution is not really feasible. :-)
Well, I installed version 0.4.2 on several systems without any problems, it works just fine. The bug #97448 concerns version 0.4.1. (just postet there a hint to the new version) Anyway as the programm didn't changed for a long time I believe it's not going to do so in the near future, so there wouldn't be much to maintain. Isn't it possible to just keep it arround as it is quiet usefull?
Hey, this program rocks! All my life, where has it been? I am taking maintainership of it if no one will then :-) Bumped in cvs. Thanks for reporting!
