Description Kory Stiffler 2005-05-31 13:06:37 UTC
I have just recently installed my moduels for the yamaho on-board opl3sa2 sound
device. The modules installed successfully, but now whenever I try to play a
sound file, be it with xmms or with aplay, the file does not play.

xmms, of course, merely doesn't play the file, with no error message.

aplay, however, exits with a write error message.

in either case, I hear static coming through the speaker (as if it is working)
BEFORE I start either xmms or aplay. Then the static ceases, and NOTHING comes
through the speakers.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.start alsa with "# /etc/init.d/alsasound start"
2.hear static coming through speakers
3.try to play a file with aplay or xmms
4.Static ceases and no file is played, aplay exits with error message, xmms sits
there cross eyed and drooling displaying 00:00 on the time elapsed display

Actual Results:
Results from aplay

# aplay /usr/lib/MozillaFirefox/res/samples/test.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/lib/MozillaFirefox/res/samples/test.wav' : Unsigned 8 bit,
Rate 22050 Hz, Mono
aplay: pcm_write:1146: write error: Input/output error

Results from xmms:
press play, static ceases, xmms displays 00:00 on time elapsed display
IMPORTANT: xmms does NOT freeze, nor does the machine. It merely refuses to
play the sound file

Expected Results:
audio file played through the speakers

Can't reproduce, try with newer version and with alsa-driver modules.
