Can you please give the "emerge info" output and also the "tail
/var/log/messages" and the output of "/etc/init.d/slmodemd start" and your
/etc/conf.d/slmodem file?

sorrry for bad english
I have used the old 2.2 driver downloaded from the builder in my old kernel 2.4
in my old mandrake 9.2 and it works. I have been all the day triying this to
work y started manualy the daemon slmodemd it creates a /dev/ttySL64 that i link
to /dev/modem but kppp said no carrier error and pppd said connect script
failed, Propietary software makes life SO HARD.
Comment 4 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-01 08:58:36 UTC
please use /dev/ttySL0 instead of /dev/ttyS0
sorry, slmodem cant really overwrite your serial bus ..

and for "var log daemons" I would like to know what it is and the output of it ..

oh and you probably want /dev/modem, so please remove the # in front of
"#LN_DEV=/dev/modem"

in the beginning i tried /dev/ttySL0 but it simpy does not exit i make the dev
using mknod sintax in my old 2.72 slmodem driver but
slmodemd --country=SPAIN /dev/ttysl0
said that dev cannot be opened
i tried also /dev/slamr0
but got same error
in var log messages dont said nothing about daemon if i found something
interesting in the logs y post it
the daemon keeps dying after execute
/etc/init.d/slmodem start
ps -A | grep slmodemd
is in blank only one sec after execute the daemon
Comment 6 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-06 08:16:47 UTC
slmodemd is supposed to create the device for you, you dont have to create it.
Comment 7 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-11 08:34:38 UTC
Any updates? Did you get it working yet?
Comment 8 miguel angel requena serrano 2005-07-17 13:54:40 UTC
(In reply to comment #7)
well slmodem need the phisical device in his conf, for create the virtual device
ttySL0, i think its fault of the developer of the driver because the later
driver on 2.4 kernel works fine, maybe gentoo is not tested/supported

i desist for make it works so, i used the free driver for my ethernet card and
instaled a dsl conection

thank you very much for your help and time
Comment 9 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-20 13:49:20 UTC
not reproduceable and reporter has DSL now.
