Description Nik Raub 2005-05-31 07:04:49 UTC
When trying to find information on useflags for new packages using "equery u"
one commonly gets something like

!!! No installed packages found for app-cdr/cdrtools

It would be really helpful if "equery u" supported displaying useflag
information for not installed packages, or for different versions of a package
(other than the currently installed one), to relieve the need to look them up
manually in "use.desc".
Along similar lines, it would be great to have something like "equery desc" to
view the description for a package. Currently the only way of getting at the
package description I know of (short of nosing around in the actual ebuild) is
"emerge -vS" which is somewhat slow and tedious to use for this purpose.

Reproducible: Always

equery u -a <pkgspec> will show the use flags for uninstalled packages.

Thanks for the hint. However, it would be nice if that feature were documented.
The man-page reads:

       uses <local-opts> pkgspec
display USE flags for pkgspec. No local options are actually
implemented yet.

This has been fixed since at least gentoolkit-0.2.1
