head problem is already fixed in 0.74; cd-paranoia conflict is fixed now, too as it's installed as libcdio-paranoia (and installed only if minimal flag is not specified).
Sorry, this is not a solution imho. The original cdparanoia is dead upstream and I dislike the the "minimal" approach. Will touch this when I have time and no one disagrees to change cdparanoia to the libcdio one.
The cdparanoia thing should be discussed on gentoo-dev. A solution could be to just make ebuilds depend on libcdio OR cdparanoia in the mean time. Please don't do any change until this is discussed.
