Just so as you know, I have recently completed a rewrite of locale-gen and am now seeking the degree of cooperation necessary for it to be integrated. The initial reason for the holdup was that, while =locale-gen-2* does technically work with >=gentoo-functions-1, they interact poorly on account of the former dispatching ebegin and eend commands asynchronously, which is not a reasonable thing to support (especially where a TTY is involved).
