I think this package is very important for a ppc system. Debian has it, but Gentoo seems not to, and I don't see any mention of it in bugzilla or the lists. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
URL doesn't work at the moment. I'm passing this to PPC since you say it's needed for PPC systems.
Kevin, why do you say knl is very important for a ppc system? In my experience, boot parameters for ppc systems are most commonly set using other methods: * desktop/server machines: boot loader (such as yaboot or quik) * embedded machines: kernel commandline compiled into kernel, or boot loader (such as uboot)
I'm not sure how useful this tool is for us, as you can set the boot paramters at compile time, whereas on something like debian, you are stuck with a binary. Also, I tried the tool on all of the images provided by the 2.6.12-rc5 build process and wasn't able to get it to do anything but print: knl: (3) File is not a kernel image. Is there a trick to using this that I'm missing? If not, I'm voting no for inclusion in portage at this time.
If there is a need for this program, feel free to reopen this bug. Thanks!
