Description Jesse Adelman 2005-05-22 20:54:14 UTC
Had this same behavior happen on two of my boxes running mythfrontend-0.18:

1. emerge sync
2. emerge -puD world

<snip>
Performing Global Updates: /usr/portage/profiles/updates/2Q-2005
(Could take a couple of minutes if you have a lot of binary packages.)
  .='update pass'  *='binary update'  @='/var/db move'
  s='/var/db SLOT move' S='binary SLOT move' p='update /etc/portage/package.*'
............................................................................@p.
 * IMPORTANT: 1 config files in /etc need updating.
 * Type emerge --help config to learn how to update config files.

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild     U ] dev-libs/elfutils-0.108 [0.94-r2]
[ebuild  N    ] net-libs/gecko-sdk-1.7.5
[ebuild     U ] net-www/mplayerplug-in-2.80 [2.66]
[ebuild     U ] dev-perl/Test-Simple-0.54 [0.47-r1]
[ebuild     U ] sys-apps/eject-2.0.13-r1 [2.0.13]

[ebuild     UD] media-tv/mythtv-0.16 [0.18-r1]
laptop root # emerge -puD mythfrontend

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[blocks B     ] media-tv/mythtv (is blocking media-tv/mythfrontend-0.18-r1)
[ebuild  N    ] media-tv/mythfrontend-0.18-r1
laptop root #

But, I never installed media-tv/mythtv on these boxes, as shown by genlop:

laptop root # genlop -t mythtv
ecount: 0
!!! Error: no merge found for 'mythtv'
laptop root # genlop -t mythfrontend
 * media-tv/mythfrontend

etc-update wants to do this:

Is the old mythfrontend ebuild now deprecated, or something? Should I only use
the mythtv ebuild from now on on backends and frontends? I checked the
ChangeLogs and there's no mention of anything that should trigger this behavior,
so I'm kinda lost as to what to do. What's really troubling is how it appears
that mythfrontend is now *gone* from my systems, from Portage's perspective, but
it was never un-emerged... 8|

Thanks.

When there's a question.... hey... let's just file a bug!! Rather then ask
somewhere... or hey... even look @ the moves file to see it's true...

Notice the new USE flag for mythtv... frontendonly... hey... there's your answer.

In plain English, YES.

Hey, I was wondering about this as well. I'm sure there are others. No need to
be pissy about this. The reporter wasn't confrontational. Just inquisitive.
