there's environment file which contains data similar `emerge --info`. Also, here's /etc/portage/* in zip in new attachment

The test is starting "printenv" and checking stdout for a specific string via a pipe.

Does the "printenv" program exist on your system? Does it output the current environment correctly?

I'm afraid I cannot reproduce this, and I don't have any real idea why it would fail for you. You'll have to do some digging on your own I think.
