Description kavol 2024-06-21 13:00:28 UTC
Today, I've run my script to merge pdf files to two pages per page format. To my surprise it failed ... because of missing pdfjam.

Looks like it is missing in the latest update - downgrading to texlive-core-2021-r7 fixed the problem for me.

Reproducible: Always

Thanks for your report.

pdfjam is part of the TexLive collection 'binextra', as such, it is part of dev-texlive/texlive-binextra and can be selected by enabling USE="extra" on app-text/texlive (or manually installing texlive-binextra).

This is an unfortunate consequence of the re-organization of texlive in Gentoo. Sorry for the inconvenience. I am closing this as WONTFIX as it is unlikely that pdfjam will become part of texlive-core again.

Thankyou for the explanation.

However, the situation is pretty unfortunate as trying emerge -S pdfjam doesn't find it.

Looking into the package contents, it includes a bit too much thing to put them all into the description ... perhaps at least the TeX Live Gentoo wikipage could list it?

We have re-activated app-text/pdfjam. The lastest version of the texlive packaging in Gentoo uses this packages (currently marked not-stable).

So ... after it gets stable, I am supposed to clean binextra and install pdfjam?

The transition is a bit unfortunate, however I prefer it this way, to have the concrete program package installed, rather than to set use flags to pull it in as part of bigger pack that I basically don't need ... thanks.

(And sorry for the bugzilla noise ... but ... you know - an utility just disappearing during updates is not a nice user experience.)
