the cvs tutorial (as someone who is needing it wrt bug 93356) is rather wordy and, quite frankly, a pain to work with. as an example, it tells people to download the source and compile by hand _before_ telling them about "emerge cvs"! scanning the doc shows a number of rather obnoxious errors like this... is everyone ok with my making a major style update while keeping much of the content the same? i might even update it with a bit about repoman and a link to the dev-handbook... i'm gonna wait to get feedback before i actually do it
one quick clarification: i plan to totally rewrite the doc, but keep the same basic information (cleaning it up would basically be a rewrite anyway; its easier to start from scratch imho)
the cvs doc was written before Gentoo afaik which is why all the extra stuff is there
stupid bugzilla ...
is that a vote for redoing it?
I cleaned up the installation procedure to leave a simple emerge cvs. Maybe we could add a word about `cvs diff`. Apart from that, I fail to see any other problems. Instead of a doing a full write for the fun of it, say what's wrong with it and let's fix it. Repoman and devrel-handbook have got nothing to do with this guide. I guess you were looking for http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/new-dev-training.xml or its devrel HB equivalent: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/handbook/handbook.xml?part=1&chap=4
well, i was also thinking we could link repoman and devrel to this doc. not duplicate, link...
Aforementioned docs both link to /doc/en/cvs-tutorial.xml at the very beginning.
sorry, i somehow missed that... resolved?
ok
