As of version 4.2.0, XFCE's Window Manager provides a compositor, but it must be enabled by a configure flag. By default, the ebuilds for xfce-base/xfwm4 enable the compositor all the time, which may seem fine until you think about the myriad problems that spawn from it - it makes firefox seem jittery, it causes problems, even crashes, on many systems, especially while using OpenGL. Moreover, users may want to use a different compositor to the one XFWM provides. As such, I propose that a composite USE flag be adopted (at least locally) that will allow the user to choose to enable the compositor at compile time. A patch is attached to add the USE flag to use.local.desc and to xfwm4-4.2.2 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

this may be viable in the future, but for now I'm leaving as is...thanks for your opinion I will take it into consideration :)
