Description Denis Tokarev 2024-05-19 09:28:25 UTC
Zenity 4 is based on gtk-4 and I'm guessing that's the reason the whole UI has changed - for the worst. Specifically I use zenity --list and after the change, when you type to search you can't just press Enter to choose the entry. Instead you need to hit Enter, the Escape and then Enter again. Bad.

Thanks

You should file an upstream bug rather than expecting any downstream to carry an unsupported version ad infinitum.
Comment 2 Denis Tokarev 2024-05-19 18:25:50 UTC
v3 versions are still being released..

Have you filed that upstream bug yet?
Comment 4 Denis Tokarev 2024-05-20 05:07:34 UTC
This bug is about restoring v3 as an option, while it's definitely still maintained.
Gentoo is about choice, not having exactly one bleeding edge version. If I'm not mistaken, that's Arch.

Doesn't change that it will eventually no longer be maintained, and if no upstream bug is filed then it may never be fixed even after zenity v3 is long dead.

Also keeping extra ebuilds brnaches working+up-to-date and responding to bugs requires extra work from maintainers and gentoo's gnome project (current maintainer) is severely understaffed as-is. I personally wouldn't blame them for dropping gtk3 versions when gtk4 ones exists so can forget about bumping an old branch. Up to them when it comes about making exceptions though.

zenity-3 will not be reintroduced to ::gentoo.
Happy to include an upstream patch that is reviewed and merged there but not yet available in a zenity-4 point release.
