My sound sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I have a "SiS AC97 Controller" and I compiled the driver for it in the kernel. Note that the error also occurs when using modules. The kernel gives the following error while booting: > dmesg ... Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.8 (Thu Jan 13 09:39:32 2005 UTC). Like I said in my bugreport, my sound sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Well, I just booted my laptop and now it suddently works! > dmesg ... Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.8 (Thu Jan 13 09:39:32 2005 UTC). The only thing that was different from other boots was that my accu died just before. But I don't know if that has something todo with it. (Because my sound works now doesn't mean this bug should be marked 'resolved'. Because when I reboot the sound might just stop working again.)
there's a tool to grab register flags. don't reboot, ask on alsa-sound-devel.
I created an ALSA bugreport: https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=1136 Please, let me know if I need to specify additional information in that bugreport.
Let upstream handle this. And see if alsa-driver-1.0.10_rc2 works better.
