Current packages of ModemManager (for WWAN internet while traveling) in Gentoo tree are: 1.18.12 and ~1.20.6 Testing with my Fibocom L830, 1.18.12 works fine :-), however 1.20.6 does NOT :-(, it gets stuck on "connection state 7/10" A new stable 1.22.x series was released about half a year ago. The brand-new Ubuntu 24.04 uses 1.23.4 - seemingly a snapshot from unstable. After spending half a day of testing with live images: Ubuntu 22.04 with MM 1.20.0 and Ubuntu 23.10 with MM 1.20.6 ...my Fibocom WWAN does NOT work, same error as 1.20.6 in Gentoo Fedora 40 with MM 1.22.0 ...this is a weird one, WWAN card is not even detected? (but I have no exp with Fedora) Ubuntu 24.04 with MM 1.23.4 ...works with my Fibocom L830 out of the box :-) ...with a patch also works with Fibocom L860-GL-16, as used by recent Lenovo ThinkPads Note: Official Lenovo WWAN support requires MM 1.22+: https://github.com/lenovo/lenovo-wwan-unlock Summary: Please keep 1.18 in tree for now. 1.20 appears broken (for me). 1.22 could be too? ...can we have a MM 1.23 as a masked build for testing? :-)
It appears a brand new stable branch Modemmanager 1.24 has been released and is being picked up by other distributions ...how to get a newer Modemanager into Gentoo? :-)
