I have utf8 locale and
as can I see all messages which contain not from ascii table were distorted.

Reproducible: Always

I have utf-8 locale and LANG="ru_RU.UTF-8 too and all fine.

what version of syslog-ng do you have?
I have app-admin/syslog-ng-1.6.7

I think better if root account and other systems account to be have LANG="C"!

As can I see on another machines syslog-ng work perfect with utf-8 messages,
so it is my local problem.
