Hi, after emerge ipw2100 and ipw2100-firmware I can't load the modules using "modprobe ipw2100". The following error occurs: ipw2100: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection ipw2100: eth1: Firmware 'ipw2100-1.3.fw' not available or load failed. ipw2100: eth1: ipw2100_get_firmware failed: -2 ipw2100: eth1: Failed to power on the adapter. ipw2100: eth1: Failed to start the firmware. ipw2100Error calling register_netdev. ipw2100: probe of 0000:02:0a.0 failed with error -5 I try something and get it worked by manually copy the 3 firmware files form /lib/firmware to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware. After that I can load the modul and use the internal Mini-PCI Wireless NIC to get network access. Pleas check it out and may be edit the path for the needed firmware files or insert a info message to the emerge output. Thank you in advance & greeting from Munich Benjamin Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge ipw2100-firmware 2. take a look where the files will be installed 3. should be /lib/firmware instead of /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware Actual Results: can't load ipw2100 modul. Expected Results: load ipw2100 modul corret.
Which version of sys-apps/hotplug do you have installed? Please attach the output of 'emerge --info' as well.
Hi Brix, sorry for the delay. Below the requested information. <Which version of sys-apps/hotplug do you have installed? Should be the last stable version 20040923. Thanks. What does 'grep ^FIRMWARE_DIR /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent' yield?
<Thanks. What does 'grep ^FIRMWARE_DIR /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent' yield? bash-2.05b# grep ^FIRMWARE_DIR /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent FIRMWARE_DIR=/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware bash-2.05b#
> bash-2.05b# grep ^FIRMWARE_DIR /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent > FIRMWARE_DIR=/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware Looks like you have neglected to update your /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent using etc-update upon upgrading sys-apps/hotplug. The /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent file from sys-apps/hotplug-20040923 specifies FIRMWARE_DIR=/lib/firmware. Please re-merge sys-apps/hotplug and run 'etc-update' for updating your configuration files.
<Looks like you have neglected to update your /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent using <etc-update upon upgrading sys-apps/hotplug. Right, I negelected to update the configuration file using etc-update. <The /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent file from sys-apps/hotplug-20040923 specifies <FIRMWARE_DIR=/lib/firmware. Correct, after running etc-update and replace the original configuration file with the updated one, /lib/firmware is the default firmware folder. Sorry for inconvenience and a lot of thanks for your support. Greetings, Benjamin
Glad to hear you have it working now :)
