The upstream repo at https://github.com/Intel-Media-SDK/MediaSDK is archived ("This repository has been archived by the owner on May 17, 2023.")

Further, https://github.com/Intel-Media-SDK/MediaSDK/commit/7a72de33a15d6e7cdb842b12b901a003f7154f0a says:

"This project has been identified as having known security escapes."

It is required for Quick Sync Video on Intel iGPUs Broadwell and older. Dropping this package effectively is a perfomance hit for video decode and encode on those devices. Additionally, ffmpeg-4 does not support VPL as the QSV library, this was introduced in ffmpeg-5.

I think we should keep it around a bit longer.

I got the codenames confused, what I meant is Broadwell to Tiger lake, not Broadwell and older. See [1]
