It is a pain in...., it is just a pain, having to merge rpm in order to install realplayer, it is. I stumbled on an rpm2cpio perl script (a very simple one) that I will attach next. I guess it would be kinder to the user to have a dependency on perl+gzip than on rpm... or at least give the user a choice, since we don't really need rpm for realplayer, do we? And the script could be distributed with the ebuild since it is only... hm... 2665 bytes, 1781 bytes of which are comments + help.

Hi. There is a small package called "rpm2targz" written by the slackware folks that consists of a shell script and small executable with no dependencies on the rpm package itself. I will bring up the topic of depending on the full rpm package with other developers and I'd encourage you to open bugs on any packages depending rpm as opposed to something like rpm2targz. Also keep in mind the script you have provided is for RPM v3 only it appears. Thanks for the suggestion and I will pass it along. :)
Can we had this one to portage? http://www.iagora.com/~espel/rpm2cpio I know there's rpm2targz, but amavisd-new want rpm2cpio for rpm.
just install rpm package, it also include that file
Klik (http://klik.atekon.de/) need rpm2cpio too. Please put it on Portage.
