From the ratpoison website: "Ratpoison is a simple window manager with no large library dependencies, no fancy graphics, no window decorations, and no rodent dependence. It was recently featured in "The Antidesktop" article on freshmeat.net as an alternative window manager for power users.

I think it's a really bad Idea to let ratpoison depend on gnome-terminal and so on gnome aswell. Think about users who don't want to use those desktop overload and use a simple terminal-emulator. (And for those users ratpoison was written, so please change that dependency) or change the ebuild-name to ratpoison-gnome or something.
Created attachment 4854 [details] New .ebuild for ratpoison without the dependency on any terminal. I suggest to use that ebuild, since users should not be forced to install a terminal they don't want to use. I you really have to specify --with-terminal option (what does not really anything important) use the USE variable.
Created attachment 4861 [details, diff] deftermprog patch Fair enough about the gnome-terminal dependency, but hardcoding the terminal program name seems like a ratpoison wart. Attached is a patch that adds a new ratpoison command called deftermprog. With it, the user can set the terminal program in their .ratpoisonrc. This lets everyone use their favorite terminal emulator without ebuild dependecies. I'll also submit the patch to the ratpoison folks.
Created attachment 4862 [details] ratpoison-1.1.1.ebuild that support deftermprog patch Here's the ebuild that supports the above patch
