Description Alexandru Toma 2005-05-12 02:34:18 UTC
If you go to a page with some flash movies or banners (imdb always has a few), and then type a new url in the url box and press enter, but before the new page loads you right click on a flash animation and bring up the contextual menu, the computer stops responding to all input. All I can do is hit Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to imdb.com or to another page with some flash animations
2. enter a new url in the url box and hit enter
3. before the new page starts loading right click on a flash animation (keep your cursor in the menu -> I don't know if this is important, but just to be sure)
4. when the new page loads you will be unable to do anything except Ctrl-Alt-Backspace

I think the current description (the one from Jakub) is a little bit misleading. Xorg doesn't "freeze", it seems to me that it just doesn't respond to keyboard and mouse input anymore.

Hopefully it

Hopefully it´s less misleading than "computer stops responding" which was the original summary. :p

Is this still a problem? It works for me.

Hello there! :)

Ever since I started using Flashblock I didn't really check to see if this bug still exists. However, I have tried now I am unable to tell you if the bug is still there because of another bug... I think.

Here's how you reproduce this other bug:
1. Go to http://www.gametrailers.com
2. After the page loads, type another address in the address bar.
3. Move your mouse cursor (don't click anywhere) over the big square flash animation that cycles through the headlines (the one that says "HEADLINE MEDIA")
4. Your address bar is still selected (the cursor should be blinking) so try and press enter with your mouse cursor over the animation

Result: Nothing happens.

If you move your mouse cursor out of the flash animation and press enter the address will load like it's supposed to.

I'm currently using netscape-flash-9.0.21.55 so maybe it's because of that... I don't know. I'll try to downgrade one of these days to see if the problem still persists with flash 7.

Firefox version: 1.5.0.7

Can you please try to see if you also have this problem?
Comment 6 Christian Marie (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-09 16:44:44 UTC
I can confirm the behavior, however it is a feature not a bug.
The flash flugin captures all keyboard input, without this you would not be able to send the return key to it.

Per Anarchy: Flash is a binary package please report bug upstream.
