After a stage3 pentium4 install of 2005.0 on a new machine with /usr in lvm the machine would not reboot with errors when vgscan ran. I turned out that the gpm package in the stage3 dist had libraries in /usr/lib which lvm2 depended on. Emerging gpm and lmv2 solved the problem. The handbook should be updated to instruct emerging of gpm before lvm2 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install stage3-pentium4 2005.0 with /usr in lvm partition 2.emerge lvm2 3.ldd /sbin/vgscan Actual Results: Stop at maintenance point
