See below. Pretty simple really. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge oregano 2. Execute "oregano" from the Konsole. 3. Program starts up. But as soon as I click on the "place" button... the window closes, and Konsole says: Segmentation fault Expected Results: Well... I'm no expert on Oregano... but I assume even if I'm using it wrong it shouldn't segfault... I notice Oregano appears to be a GNOME application. KDE is my preferred desktop - I don't know if that's actually related. When I asked emerge to fetch Oregano, it installed 41 GNOME-related packages first, so I /assumed/ that that would be OK... I also use Gentoo on amd64, and have the same symptoms. bash # emerge --info Portage 2.0.51.22-r2 (default-linux/amd64/2005.1, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r1, 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 x86_64) =============================================================== == System uname: 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.13 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=k8 -msse3 -O2 -pipe -fno-ident" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/ kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib64/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/ share/config /var/qmail/control"CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/ env.d"CXXFLAGS="-march=k8 -msse3 -O2 -pipe -fno-ident -fvisibility-inlines-hidden"DISTDIR="/usr/ portage/distfiles"FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict"GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp:// localhost/gentoo"LINGUAS="en_GB en_UK en_AU"MAKEOPTS="-j2"PKGDIR="/usr/portage/ packages"PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp"PORTDIR="/usr/portage"PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/ portage"SYNC="rsync://localhost/gentoo-portage"USE="amd64 X X509 Xaw3d aac aalib aim alsa apache2 arts artswrappersuid artworkextra audiofile avalon avi bash-completion berkdb bidi big-tables bitmap-fonts bonobo bootsplash browserplugin bzip2 cdparanoia cdr cjk cpudetection crypt cups curl curlwrappers doc dv dvd dvdr dvdread edl emul-linux-x86 encode examples fam fbcon ffmpeg fftw foomaticdb ftp gif gimp gimpprint glibc-omitfp glx gnokii gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile haskell icq idea ieee1394 imagemagick imap imlib innodb ipv6 jabber jack java javascript jikes joystick jpeg jpeg2k junit kadmos kde kdeenablefinal libcaca libg++ libwww lzw lzw-tiff mad maildir mime motif mozcalendar mozdevelop mozilla mozsha1 mozsvg mozxmlterm mp3 mpeg mplayer msn mysql mysqli ncurses new-login nls nocd nsplugin nvidia offensive ogg oggvorbis opengl oscar pam pam_timestamp pcre pda pdflib perl php png posix postgres ppds python qt quicktime quotes readline real rhino rtc samba sblive scanner sdl serial session sms sndfile spell sse-filters ssl tcltk tcpd tga theora tiff toolbar truetype truetype-fonts type1 type1-fonts ucs2 unicode usb userlocales utf8 vcd videos vorbis xanim xchattext xine xml xml2 xmms xpm xv xvid xvmc yahoo zeroconf zlib linguas_en_GB linguas_en_UK linguas_en_AU userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc"Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGSmoncrieff distfiles
This appears to a bug that has been fixed in upstream 0.40.4 and later. See: [1]: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=310936 [2]: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95795
Please try the new oregano 0.4.5 which is now in portage to see if the bug still shows up. Many dependencies are packege.masked (like cairo 1.0 and gnome 1.12) but they should be unmasked soon. Lucas Chiesa
Could you please provide feedback on this, Mathematical Orchid? I would like to close the bug report if this is fixed in later versions.
(In reply to comment #6) > Could you please provide feedback on this, Mathematical Orchid? I would like > to close the bug report if this is fixed in later versions. I can't speak for Mathematical Orchid, but I have been trying out the 0.40.5 ebuild, and Oregano is now working fine for me, with no recurrence of the aforementioned bug.
I'm closing the bug. Please reopen if it the problem reapears. Mathematical Orchid any news? Lucas Chiesa
