SDDM can be configured to show a virtual keyboard in /etc/sddm.conf using dev-qt/qtvirtualkeyboard [General] # Input method module InputMethod=qtvirtualkeyboard There's currently no dependency between x11-misc/sddm and dev-qt/qtvirtualkeyboard, so dev-qt/qtvirtualkeyboard is reported to be removed by "emerge --depclean --pretend" despite this configuration. It would be useful if x11-misc/sddm declared an optional dependency on dev-qt/qtvirtualkeyboard. I've seen that dev-qt/qt-docs has the USE flag "virtualkeyboard" with description "Install documentation for dev-qt/qtvirtualkeyboard". Maybe the same USE flag could be reused. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install x11-misc/sddm 2. Install dev-qt/qtvirtualkeyboard with "emerge -1" (It was probably installed as a dependency of something else on my systems) 3. This would be more an optional runtime dependency, so for existing sddm ebuild optfeature would be more appropriate. If we start splitting out a meta/config-only sddm ebuild, this could be turned into a USE flag instead.
> this could be turned into a USE flag instead I agree; I didn't even need to configure SDDM to use it when I had it installed (I just had it removed by depclean, though I'm not sure how it got installed in the first place in that case); having it as a USE flag would be better
