Description Florian Dittmer 2002-10-14 16:01:22 UTC
Hi,

I just emerged cups, and I have problems with it. I must also say that I am
not very experienced with CUPS.

I emerged cups and gimp-print

I chnaged nothing in /etc/cups/

I added my users (root and dittmer) to group "lp" (If I understand the
cupsd.conf correctly, this is what I need to do)

I can connect to http://localhost:631/ and login.

I can chose my printer etc, but when I submit the final selection (of the
gimp-print driver) I get the following message:

Error:
  client-error-not-authorized

Is this an ebuild bug or can anyone tell me what I have missed. (I already
played with the cupsd.conf but had no luck...)

try different drivers ... i got this until i used the correct driver

also, try doing this as root (log in as root when it asked for username/pw)

- tried as root, same error.
- unmerged gimp-print, selected cups-built in drivers: same error
- set passwd for user "lp" and tried cups interface as user "lp": login
successful, but... same error!
- now unmerged gimp-print , ghostscript, cups -> rm -Rf /etc/cups -> emerge
gimp-print (with dependencies gs + cups) -> started cupsd -> trying to add
printer both as user "lp" and "root" -> same error

 - Commented out "AuthType Basic" and "AuthType System" from cupsd.conf ->
could add printer!!! and works now...
I cant believe! Why? Seems to be an error in the cups webserver for me?!

Need to go to bed now, will have a look at it later again...

I now followed the documentation at

http://www.linuxprinting.org/cups-doc.html

step by step (configured via lpadmin command line etc)

and my printer works now.

Next time I better RTFM, although I am still wondering why this client-error
happened after just installing cups+gimp-print.
