This relies on the fact that the network card was detected by the boot cd. This was NOT the case with my pc using 3com card. I had to compile the kernel with support for my card before i could start testing - by this stage i had skipped over the earlier networking stuff as text said it was not required to do a stage 3 install from cd at this point.

to be quite frank after reviewing all the network sections in the manual they need a major sort out and a lot of the tutorial stuff in the wireless section needs to be shifted to an appendix as it is applicable to all networks.

Its is my conclusion that the orginal structure of the manual has been lost due to a lot of hacking and slashing.

The only way to get the manual sorted is to generate a table of contents and get the structure correct before fulling in the content.
